245 (1 today)
13 (who?)
I search upon the still lake's shores
For the wells that flow over
With knowledge that runs eternal
And into the eddying stream

The oceans are churning, always churning
With life and labour and all that I love
Forlorn, I stand upon this fjord
Awed and yet terrified by the power of the deep

The heavens are heavy with spray
As the waterfall's gushing rises up in clouds
I cast my soul into the gurgling blue
And I rush, run amongst the currents, a force of will

How patiently I must wait
For the freshly-planted to grow
For all the seeds to blossom
Upon the next coming of spring

Is it a name for Freyr?
Is it a name for something else?
What does this virile rune
Truly sprout from its lines and being?

The first of the Danes
And the first of the fertile
All is potential,
All can birth a leader

I inherit my father's kingdom
I inherit my mother's gods
I inherit the land in my blood
When I am born, and my children after me

There is that which is dear to me,
My slice of paradise upon the Middle-Realm;
I pray to keep it as long as I can
For I find pride in that which I care for

It is not hard to gain something
For we can be given the smallest thing
And it can be ours to keep forever
So long as we constantly work to keep it

The wolf chases another day
The Sun bestows her glowing face
The day comes again, the land shall warm
One day the winter will cease to come

I rise at dawn, I lie at dusk
I wait for the stars to fall
I am whole with the glow of the ever-brilliant daybreak
It is only natural for the greatest of lights to be shining

Hope-bringer, Most Glorious of Faces
Keep turning the world with your gentle caress
Warm our bodies and dry the floods
So that our horses and carts may not stick in the damp earth

Gift from the Old One-Eye who hung on a tree,
Blessed of the bark that acts as Yggdrasil's skin,
Written on leaves plucked from the great tree
And passed down by humanity to record in their blood

I run my fingers over the sacred words
I speak as my ancestors might have spoken
I look to the heavens, I look to the Earth
I look to the teachings of meanings and names

Verses and chants of immeasurable power
Whether recorded history or an everlasting spell
A gift from the sons and daughters of the All-Father
Now mine and forever to keep and draw from.
The last of the Runal Verses, finished at last.

Weh me oh weh, Herr Hraefn... thu spinnst so wel! Anyway. I like this, a lot. Of the Holy Staves mentioned, my favourite is Othalan. I like the sense of continuity which it captures. I also like that you make the sense of patrimony terrestrial, but matrimony celestial. I think this is very much in keeping with the mores of our Folk.

Good show and my compliments, Sir.

Well done here. Powerful and enthralling verses it sound natural and fluid with a touch that guttural Nordic voice. Well done, indeed.
